Invoicing in Canada

What a Canadian invoice has to say on its face

The generator below opens with Canada's own labels, currency and number format already set. First, the part that is not about software.

Required on the document

The one that costs money

Your customer cannot claim an input tax credit without your registration number on the invoice. In practice that means a business customer will not pay it until you send one that has it.

The rate

GST is 5%. HST is 13% or 15% depending on the province. In Quebec, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba a separate provincial tax sits alongside GST, and Quebec expects both the GST and QST numbers on the face of the invoice.

That is the standard rate as a matter of public record. Whether it is the rate for your work, and whether you are registered at all, are questions about your business — this page does not know, the app does not look it up, and neither will guess.
